What You Need to Record & Publish Music

As the giant record companies flounder in confusion, more and more songwriters and recording artists are turning to the Internet and self-publishing - even well-known artists are turning to alternative marketing methods.

Many of us have turned to creating our own in-home studio thanks to the advanced computer technology and software now available. You can spend a lot of money on software like Cakewalk or you can get low-cost or free software that works almost as good - your choice! Some of us still use the professional recording studios.

Obviously, if you're going to build your own studio in the garage or a spare bedroom, you need a computer. I suggest using this computer only for music - do not use it as your main Internet computer. If you do, you can wipe out everything!

Get the fastest computer you can afford with the biggest possible hard drive. If you live in the Nashville-Old Hickory area, you can buy one from us and save some $$$$. Each computer is thoroughly checked out and tested - it takes 3-4 hours to test each one. We'll be advertising them in our FREE classifieds section ... where you can also post your own classifieds.

As a musician, you probably already have your own instrument and mics. If not, we'll deal with some recommendations later.

You need a way to get your music into your computer. If you use a MIDI keyboard, you can use either a serial or USB MIDI interface.
